- It takes months and years to yield results
- There are no guarantees (so don’t fall for that from an “SEO” consultant)
- It’s always changing
- SEO projects never end – they are iterative -> implement, analyze, repeat

I completely agree. Far too often our clients expect immediate success. Part of the issue is education – we need to teach our clients what SEO really is (and how it is accomplished). The other problem is our clients' expectations – SEO does not provide instant gratification.
SEO takes a lot of time, and a lot of work. It is not a "add this to the page" type of solution. And it surely holds no guarantees. When done properly, though, it can be incredibly rewarding.

Yea I agree – managing expectations is one of the hardest parts of doing any SEO consulting work
