Choosing a Web Host

by Andy Brudtkuhl on February 4, 2009

This is a crucial step in planning your web strategy – where will your website “live”.

Let’s start off with things you shouldn’t do when looking for a host..

  • Don’t automatically go with the cheapest
  • Don’t let your buddy host your website on his basement server
  • Don’t pay for more than what you need

So what should you look for?

  • Customer Service
  • Reputation
  • Scalability
  • Cost
  • Matches your needs

Here are some questions you should ask yourself before choosing a web host…

  • How many sites are you planning to host?
  • How much traffic (realistically) are you planning to generate?
  • What platform will you be using?
  • How much control do you need?

Always remember – in the hosting business you get what you pay for.

The cheaper the hosting, the less quality of service and control you have. That works vice versa.

We recommend Mosso cloud hosting because its scalable and supports multiple platforms. And, their support is amazing.

Other notable hosts include Dreamhost and MediaTemple.
